A kit is defined by its component list
Kitting goes wrong when the build is ambiguous — a missing insert, a wrong variant swapped into the pack, a component that was out of stock. We work from a written bill of materials so every kit is built the same way, every time.
- Send the component list with the exact quantity of each item
- Specify the packaging and how the finished kit should look
- Confirm the kit SKU and whether it needs its own barcode
- Tell us how components and finished kits should be counted in stock
Component stock and kit stock
Kitting changes what inventory means. Components are consumed and finished kits are created, so both need to be reflected in stock records. We keep components and finished kits as separate items so what is on the shelf matches what the system says.
Build on demand, or build ahead
Kits can be built ahead of demand and stored ready to pick, or assembled when an order arrives. Building ahead shortens the pick for a busy line; building on demand avoids holding finished stock you may not sell. Which suits you depends on your volume and how your components are stored — tell us and we will set it up accordingly.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can you source the components as well as assemble the kit?
Sourcing sits with the procurement side of the ecosystem, not here. If you already have components arriving at the warehouse, they can be received, stored and built into kits. For sourcing, the DingDropshipping site is the right place to start.
Do you make the custom packaging, or do I supply it?
It can work either way. If you supply the packaging, it is received and stored with your other components. If you need packaging produced, that can be arranged with suppliers and then held in the warehouse for kitting.
How is a finished kit counted in inventory?
A finished kit becomes its own SKU, so it is tracked separately from the components used to build it. That way picking a kit draws down kit stock, and component stock reflects what has been consumed.
Can kits be disassembled or converted back?
Yes, where the packaging allows it. If a kit needs to change — a different insert, a new component — tell us how the finished packs should be handled and we will confirm what can be reworked.
